Back-to-school season hits different when you’re both a teacher and a mom. Between lesson planning, lunch and toddler meltdowns before 7:30 a.m., I’ve learned that the right tools can make life way more manageable (or at least survivable). Here are my top 10 ride or die items for the classroom, the carpool lane, and everything in between.
1. Planner 🗓️
Planner Link: I need one place to keep track of IEP meetings, daycare events and play dates I’ll probably reschedule.
2. Timer ⏱️
Timer Link: Ask my previous co-teachers…timers are my love language and such an integral part of running a classroom. I love this one because it’s magnetic and I just put it on my whiteboard but it also has a stand so you can take it with you to use in small groups.
3. Shoes
Shoes Link: If I’m chasing students or my own kids, these are both stylish and comfy! My feet deserve more than cute flats with no arch support.
4. Teacher Bag 👜
Teacher Bag: I use this bag for EVERYTHING! It’s my teacher bag, diaper bag and during the summer, it was my beach bag. Love it!!!
5. Electrolytes ⚡
Electrolytes Link: If you haven’t already jumped on the electrolyte train then this is your time. Because coffee’s great, but electrolytes are what actually save me from afternoon crashes. And yes, they taste good! This brand has all the taste without the sugar.
6. Noise Canceling Earbuds 🎧
Earbuds Link: When you need to lock-in and focus on your IEPs or to catch up on your audiobook.
7. Sensory Fidget 🪀
Fidget Link: All my kids like this fidget-it has a calming effect and can also be used as a sensory toy as well.
8. Favorite Pens 🖋️
Pens Link: These are a staple for a reason. I love the color options and they last forever! Highly recommend!
9. BruMate Tumbler 🥤
BruMate Link: This is my go to tumbler for emotional support. (I don’t have this color…yet)
10. Mini Fridge 🧊
Mini Fridge Link: One thing I didn’t know I needed until I got it. A mini fridge. a game changer for pumped milk, an Alani or a mid-day chocolate. Yes, I’m that teacher now
